Back in The Peak

A good weekend has been had all in all. Finished off with a day in the peak – yes nothing to do with being in ‘peak’ condition that’s for sure.

Spent Sunday afternoon bouldering around Burbage both South and North with some friends from Huddersfield Uni climbing club and a hardcore addition from Buxton. Yes E. whooped all our backsides! I arrived later than everyone else in my usual stile – parking up at the Fox House and then trying to figure out where the style was to start the short walk to Burbage South. Ok crazy I know, I’ve climbed on and off for over 10 years and have never made it to Burbage South – but I do think bouldering is probably a good introduction to the place looking at some of the steeper routes on the main crag…

I got off to a fairly good start playing on the ‘Brick’ and a route called ‘Huggy’ on the ‘Briquette’ (well it was Valentine’s Day)…

But as the day got colder – or I got colder my motivation and ability to climb high or hold on waned some what. Yes the head game got the better of me again. Moves that I knew I could do just felt too high so I failed to commit. It was an arête on Burbage North that caught me I think for the rest of the day. Had been grateful to my spotters however.

It was a fab day out, the weather stayed dry and the heckling was actually quite mild. A good start for the year and more to come back to for some successful second attempts. Till next time…
